Wilson Hill at SW 20-33-W2

Wilson Hill at SW 20-33-03-W3 is a Municipal Heritage Property comprising approximately 2.6 hectares in the south west corner of a quarter-section within the Rural Municipality of Keys. The property features a log house set among a small grove, and a non-contributing cairn.

The heritage value of Wilson Hill at SW 20-33-03-W2 resides in its association with Robert and Mary Elizabeth Raynolds Wilson. The Wilsons homesteaded this quarter in 1901, building their first cabin in this grove that was affectionately called ‘the Pines’. The Wilsons quickly became leading members of their community and ‘The Pines’, which came to include a small orchard, became an important gathering place. Mary’s influence was particularly important as she co-founded the first public library in the area.

Le Wilson Hill at SW 20-33-03-W3 est un bien patrimonial municipal comprenant environ 2,6 hectares dans le coin sud-ouest d’un quart de section de la municipalité rurale de Keys. La propriété comprend une maison en rondins située dans un petit bosquet, ainsi qu’un cairn qui ne contribue pas à la valeur patrimoniale.

La valeur patrimoniale du Wilson Hill at SW 20-33-03-W2 réside dans son association avec Robert et Mary Elizabeth Raynolds Wilson. Les Wilson s’établirent sur ce quart de section en 1901 et construisirent leur première cabane dans ce bosquet affectueusement surnommé « the Pines ». Les Wilson devinrent rapidement des membres influents de leur communauté, et « The Pines », qui finit par comprendre un petit verger, devint un important lieu de rassemblement. L’influence de Mary fut particulièrement importante, puisqu’elle cofonda la première bibliothèque publique de la région.
