Veterans Memorial Garden
The War Memorial Site Committee (WMSC) has come together to create a Veterans Memorial Garden in downtown St. Thomas as a part of the Canada 150 celebrations. The Committee has the full endorsement of Branch 41 of The Royal Canadian Legion and of the City of St. Thomas who will own the project when completed.
The St Thomas -Elgin War Memorial Project will graciously and respectfully recognize the sacrifice of so many from St. Thomas and Elgin County made during human conflicts.
The Veterans Memorial Garden will include a new Afghanistan memorial, a realistic statue of a Canadian soldier in repose. The committee intends to move the Great War memorial, a realistic sculpture of a soldier that is currently in place at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. The committee also intends to move the World War Two/Korean War Cenotaph from its Talbot St location. The goal is to have the new garden completed and dedicated by Nov. 11, 2017, in time for Remembrance Day.
