Treaty 8 / Treaty 10 boundary – Highway 955

Highway signs here mark the boundary between Treaty 8 and Treaty 10 territory. The signs come in pairs, one for each Treaty territory.

Each sign shows a Treaty medal, a welcome in the Indigenous languages of the area, and the words “as long as the sun shines, grass grows, and rivers flow”, which express the spirit and intent of the Treaties. The signs were created by the Government of Saskatchewan and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner. The first pair went up on Highway 11 in 2022; by 2024 all eight Treaty boundary crossings on Saskatchewan highways were marked.

Treaty 8 was first signed on 21 June 1899 at Lesser Slave Lake. Treaty 10 signings began at Île-à-la-Crosse in August 1906 and concluded in 1907.

Limite Traité no 8 / Traité no 10 – route 955
