Thrall Residence
The Thrall Residence is a one-storey, Craftsman-style building located in Qualicum Beach’s town centre. The historic place is confined to the building footprint.
Built around 1915, the Thrall Residence is a very good example of the Craftsman style. Craftsman bungalows, often built to plans ordered from pattern books, offered affordable, well-designed and well-built housing options to the middle class. The solid appearance, simple rectangular form, front porch and shingle cladding of the Thrall Residence are typical elements of the style.
The Thrall Residence is an excellent example of the adaptive reuse of a historic building. Acquired by the Town of Qualicum Beach in 1990, the building is currently leased to the Chamber of Commerce. Although some changes have been made to the building’s entrance to accommodate its transition from residential to commercial use, the Thrall Residence is substantially intact and stands as a model for sympathetic and thoughtful rehabilitation.
The Thrall Residence is located within a grouping of heritage buildings in the town centre and contributes significantly to the cohesiveness of the streetscape.

La résidence Thrall est un bâtiment de style Craftsman d’un étage situé au centre-ville de Qualicum Beach. Le lieu patrimonial se limite à l’empreinte au sol du bâtiment.
Construite vers 1915, la résidence Thrall est un très bon exemple du style Craftsman. Les bungalows Craftsman, souvent construits à partir de plans commandés dans des catalogues, offraient à la classe moyenne des options de logement abordables, bien conçues et bien construites. L’aspect solide, la forme rectangulaire simple, la galerie avant et le revêtement de bardeaux de la résidence Thrall sont des éléments typiques de ce style.
La résidence Thrall est un excellent exemple de réutilisation adaptée d’un bâtiment historique. Acquis par la Ville de Qualicum Beach en 1990, le bâtiment est actuellement loué à la chambre de commerce. Bien que certaines modifications aient été apportées à l’entrée du bâtiment pour permettre son passage d’un usage résidentiel à un usage commercial, la résidence Thrall est en grande partie intacte et constitue un modèle de réhabilitation respectueuse et réfléchie.
La résidence Thrall fait partie d’un ensemble de bâtiments patrimoniaux du centre-ville et contribue de façon importante à la cohésion du paysage de rue.
