Territorial Grain Growers Association

The founding convention of the Territorial Grain Growers Association, the first successful farm organized in Western Canada, took place at Indian Head on 12 February 1902. Inadequate grain shipping and marketing arrangements had fostered a protest meeting here on 18 December 1901 under the leadership of W.R. Motherwell, John Millar and others, which sparked the movement for an independent farmers’ organization. Co-operative enterprises in every aspect of agricultural and commercial marketing in the west evolved from this pioneer association.
