St. Mary's Greek Catholic Cemetery
The St. Mary’s Greek Catholic Cemetery is a Municipal Heritage Property located approximately ten kilometres northeast of the Town of Ituna in the Rural Municipality of Garry No. 245. The property features a small cemetery located on a four acre plot of land established in 1909 and a metal cross.
The heritage value of St. Mary’s Greek Catholic Cemetery resides in its association with the area’s Ukrainian Catholic pioneers. The cemetery is situated on the site of the first Ukrainian Catholic church in the area. In 1919, the church was relocated approximately five kilometres northeast. St. Mary’s Greek Catholic Cemetery is the final resting place for many of the original Ukrainian residents of the district. Le cimetière catholique grec St. Mary’s (St. Mary’s Greek Catholic Cemetery) est un bien patrimonial municipal situé à environ dix kilomètres au nord-est de la ville d’Ituna, dans la municipalité rurale de Garry no 245. La propriété comprend un petit cimetière établi en 1909 sur une parcelle de quatre acres, ainsi qu’une croix en métal.
La valeur patrimoniale du cimetière catholique grec St. Mary’s réside dans son association avec les pionniers catholiques ukrainiens de la région. Le cimetière est situé sur le site de la première église catholique ukrainienne de la région. En 1919, l’église a été déplacée à environ cinq kilomètres au nord-est. Le cimetière catholique grec St. Mary’s est le dernier lieu de repos de nombreux résidents ukrainiens d’origine du district. Le cimetière est marqué par une croix en métal symbolisant la nature religieuse de la propriété et par une enseigne métallique indiquant la période d’inhumation active du cimetière, de 1909 à 1919.
