Sewell House
This house was built in 1803 1804 for Jonathan Sewell, Chief Justice of Lower Canada, early advocate of a federal union of the British colonies, and patron of the arts. While living here, the Sewell family entertained members of the social and political elite associated with the development of Québec City. After the family’s departure in the 1850s, it was integrated into Québec’s complex of military buildings. With its simple exterior, symmetrical façade, and gently sloping roof, this fine example of British Classical architecture contributes to the rich diversity of this historic urban landscape.
Maison Sewell
