Saskatchewan Herald

The Saskatchewan Herald was founded on this site in 1878 by Patrick G. Laurie. It was the first newspaper in the territories. Laurie brought in his printing press by ox cart from Fort Garry, a trek of 72 days. His own publisher, editor, compositor and bookbinder, and first printer to the Territorial Government, Laurie edited the paper until his death in 1903. Members of his family continued the Herald until it ceased publication in 1938.

Le Saskatchewan Herald a été fondé sur ce site en 1878 par Patrick G. Laurie. Ce fut le premier journal des territoires. Laurie a apporté sa presse à imprimer depuis Fort Garry par charrette à bœufs, un voyage de 72 jours. À la fois éditeur, rédacteur, typographe et relieur, et premier imprimeur du gouvernement territorial, Laurie a dirigé le journal jusqu’à sa mort, en 1903. Les membres de sa famille ont poursuivi la publication du Herald jusqu’à sa cessation, en 1938.
