Salmo Community Memorial Church
The Salmo Community Memorial Church was built in 1952. Not only was it constructed as a place to worship, but also with the specific purpose of being dedicated to the memory of local young men who were killed in the Second World War. Every year, at this church, on the Sunday before Remembrance Day, the Honour Roll of fallen soldiers from the Salmo Valley is read. The names of these young men can be seen in the church.
Construction commenced in the summer of 1949 and it was completed by Christmas 1952. The Salmo Ladies’ Aid initiated the drive and raised the first funds as early as 1937.
After two years of research by Jean Stahl, on Sunday, September 25, 2011, a ceremony was held at the Salmo Community Memorial Church to dedicate a wall of photographs and information about these young men.
