Roderick Langmere Haig-Brown (1908-1976)

This prolific author expressed a deep understanding of the complex relationship between humanity and nature. Immigrating to Canada at 18, he found happiness on Vancouver Island, working outdoors and writing about land, rivers, wildlife, and associated human experiences, such as fly-fishing. An early and outspoken conservationist, he argued for the protection of the natural world as well as community, just when the province was beginning rapid resource exploitation. Haig-Brown’s many works of fiction and non-fiction, renowned for their evocative descriptions and lyrical, unassuming style, continue to hold broad appeal.

Roderick Langmere Haig-Brown (1908-1976)
