Poundmaker
Renowned among his people as a warrior and conjurer, Poundmaker, chief of the Sweetgrass Cree, seemed destined for greatness. When trouble flared along the Saskatchewan in 1885, he held back but could not prevent a number of incidents involving his followers. Attacked by government troops at Cut Knife Hill, he forced them to retreat restraining his followers from retaliation. For his part in the rebellion he was sentenced to three years in prison. He was freed within a year only to die soon after while visiting Chief Crowfoot who had long regarded him as a son.

Attaqué par les troupes gouvernementales à Cut Knife Hill, il les a forcées à se retirer, tout en empêchant ses partisans de riposter. Pour son rôle dans la rébellion, il a été condamné à trois ans de prison. Il a été libéré moins d’un an plus tard, pour mourir peu après en rendant visite au chef Crowfoot, qui l’avait longtemps considéré comme un fils.
