Pierre-Thibault House
The Pierre-Thibault House, recognized as a historic monument, is an 18th-century rural dwelling. It is a low, one-and-a-half-storey building of roughcast stone, topped by a gable roof covered with sheet metal. It is located on avenue Royale, in the municipality of Château-Richer.
The value of the Pierre-Thibault House lies first in its age. Settlement of the Côte-de-Beaupré began as early as the 17th century, and the Pierre-Thibault House, built in the following century, is one of the oldest surviving houses in the area. Its age is evident in particular in its orientation, facing the St. Lawrence River with its back to the road, and in its siting a short distance from the cliff for protection from the weather.
The Pierre-Thibault House also has architectural value in that it is a representative example of the evolution of domestic architecture in the St. Lawrence Valley in the 18th and 19th centuries. The symmetry of its facade, the bellcast slopes of the roof and the hooded (capucine) door and window surrounds, all elements borrowed from Neoclassicism, reveal this evolution.
Maison Pierre-Thibault
