Passage by Sail
On July 13, 1792, the sloop ‘Discovery’ commanded by Captain George Vancouver, R.N., skirted Cape Mudge and entered the narrow, tide-ripped channels leading northward to the open Pacific. This perilous voyage through Discovery Passage and Johnstone Strait proved beyond dispute that Vancouver Island was not part of the Mainland.

Le 13 juillet 1792, le sloop « Discovery », commandé par le capitaine George Vancouver de la Royal Navy, a contourné le cap Mudge et s’est engagé dans les étroits chenaux aux forts courants de marée menant vers le nord et le Pacifique. Ce voyage périlleux par le passage Discovery et le détroit de Johnstone a prouvé hors de tout doute que l’île de Vancouver ne faisait pas partie du continent.
