Overland Telegraph
Perry Collins, an American, envisioned a land route to link America and Asia by telegraph. All attempts to lay a cable across the Atlantic had failed. Western Union had completed 800 miles northerly from New Westminster in 1865-66, when the ocean cable was successful. The overland project was abandoned but the line to Cariboo remained.

L’Américain Perry Collins imaginait une ligne terrestre reliant l’Amérique et l’Asie par télégraphe, toutes les tentatives de poser un câble sous l’Atlantique ayant échoué. La Western Union avait achevé 800 milles de ligne vers le nord à partir de New Westminster en 1865-1866 lorsque le câble océanique a enfin fonctionné. Le projet terrestre a été abandonné, mais la ligne jusqu’au Cariboo est restée.
