McLeod Street is named for Henry Wallace (Wally) McLeod. During the Second World War, he was Canada’s top scoring operational pilot. He joined the R.C.A.F. in 1940 and went overseas as a pilot officer. In 18 weeks at Malta, he shot down 13 enemy aircraft and is credited with 15 probables. He was reported missing over Germany in 1944. By that time he had positively destroyed 21 enemy aircraft and held the rank of squadron leader. Rue McLeod
