Mathieu House

The Mathieu house, a recognized historic monument, is a stone dwelling erected between 1812 and 1833. This residence, rectangular in plan and one and a half storeys high, is topped by a gable roof with flared eaves. The Mathieu house is set back from the former chemin du Roy, in the Lachenaie sector of the municipality of Terrebonne.

The heritage value of the Mathieu house lies in its architectural interest. The dwelling retains traces of its successive states. Built between 1812 and 1833, it has a low rubblestone body raised only slightly above the ground, which relates it to the French-inspired house. The very steep pitch of the roof suggests that the roof framing may be older (17th or 18th century) than the masonry body. Originally, the roof had straight slopes. The flared eaves, the dormers and the façade gallery were added in the course of the 19th century.

Maison Mathieu
