King's College

At the instance of Charles Inglis, first Bishop of Nova Scotia, the House of Assembly, in 1789, established King’s College to train a native Anglican clergy. The college received a royal charter in 1802. Restrictive religious tests limited its intended role as the main provincial university. When, in 1829, financial and denominational pressure forced removal of the tests enrollment did not rise significantly but the governors rejected the alternative of union with Dalhousie College. In 1923, when the main building on this campus was burned, the college finally joined Dalhousie and moved to Halifax.

King's College
