Kaslo Municipal Hall
This 1898 building, the oldest remaining municipal hall on the British Columia mainland, typifies the civic facilities erected in a number of new mining-based boom towns in the Kootenay region at the end of the l9th centuy. Designed by the firm of Ewart and Kelly from Nelson, this structure, despite its simple and inexpensive wood-frame construction, lent an air of dignity and solidity to the young community. Like many modestly-scaled Canadian town halls of the period, it housed a variety of facilities including a court room and lock-up in addition to the council chamber and civic offices.
