Jacob House

Jacob House, a classified historic monument, is a farmhouse of French inspiration built in or before 1839. The rectangular roughcast stone residence, one and a half storeys high, is topped by a steep gable roof with straight slopes and short eaves. Jacob House is surrounded by a protection area. It stands along the former chemin du Roy, in a row of heritage properties, in the heart of the municipality of Boischatel.

The heritage value of Jacob House lies in its representativeness as a rural house of French inspiration. This type stems from local know-how that gradually adapted the French model to the particular conditions of the country (climate, availability of materials) and opened it to certain stylistic influences. Jacob House illustrates this type through its low roughcast stone main dwelling set close to the ground, its steep roof with short eaves, its small-paned windows arranged asymmetrically yet regularly, its central chimney and its plain ornamentation. The limestone used was probably quarried from one of the many quarries of Beauport or the Côte-de-Beaupré.

Maison Jacob
