Irving House

Arriving in British Columbia from the United States in 1859, Scottish-born Capt. William Irving pioneered the riverboat trade of the lower Fraser River. In 1862-64, Royal Engineers built his fine home of California redwood in the popular San Francisco Gothic Revival style. It stands almost unchanged, an expression of the prosperity and tastes of the 19th century commercial classes.

Arrivé en Colombie-Britannique des États-Unis en 1859, le capitaine William Irving, né en Écosse, a été un pionnier de la navigation fluviale sur le cours inférieur du Fraser. En 1862-1864, les Royal Engineers ont construit sa belle maison en séquoia de Californie, dans le style néogothique alors populaire à San Francisco. Elle est restée presque inchangée, une expression de la prospérité et des goûts de la classe marchande du XIXe siècle.
