Glanford Township Cenotaph

The Glanford Township Cenotaph was designed by a young girl, Peggy, from the Mount Hope public School in a contest. It was erected in 1955-56.

When the Townships of Glanford and Binbrook amalgamated under Hamilton and Wentworth County, a promise was made by the new Glanbrook Township to the Veterans Associations that an amalgamated cenotaph would be updated with all of Canada’s Military actions.

Between 1998-2000, the new Township carried through with their promise to the Veterans. A committee was created with several Veterans and a few members of council. Twenty-four tons of pink granite was selected at a quarry in Havelock (stone from the Canadian shield, with the colour to be a reminder of those that made the sacrifice).
