Gaultier de La Vérendrye's Journey to the Mandans
Having left Fort la Reine, 13th October, 1733, the Canadian explorer, La Verendrye with his sons, François and Louis-Joseph crossed this region on his way to the country of the Mandans’, whence by following the Missouri he hoped to reach the Western Sea.

Parti du fort-La-Reine le 13 octobre 1738, l’explorateur canadien La Vérendrye avec ses fils, François et Louis-Joseph, traversa cette région en route vers le pays des Mantannes d’oû, en souvant le Missouri. Il espérait atteindre la mer de l’Ouest.
