Galloway Building
The Galloway Building is a large, two storey, vernacular commercial building located on a major road, just north of the downtown core.
Built around 1920, the Galloway Building is an excellent example of a simple, vernacular, interwar commercial structure. Boxy in form, the building’s second-storey square projecting bays on the east and south elevations provide some visual interest. Although the building has undergone several renovations, its basic form and character are intact.
The Galloway Building is a significant example of an early commercial building located outside the downtown core. Home to many different businesses over the years, the building’s location on one of the city’s major thoroughfares took early advantage of the city’s northward expansion.
The Galloway Building’s large mass and corner location on a major road make it a prominent city landmark.
Édifice Galloway
L’édifice Galloway est un grand bâtiment commercial vernaculaire de deux étages situé sur une artère principale, juste au nord du centre-ville.
Construit vers 1920, l’édifice Galloway est un excellent exemple de construction commerciale vernaculaire et sobre de l’entre-deux-guerres. De forme cubique, le bâtiment tire un certain intérêt visuel de ses oriels carrés en saillie au deuxième étage, sur les élévations est et sud. Bien que le bâtiment ait fait l’objet de plusieurs rénovations, sa forme de base et son caractère sont intacts.
L’édifice Galloway est un exemple important de bâtiment commercial ancien situé à l’extérieur du centre-ville. Ayant abrité de nombreuses entreprises au fil des ans, le bâtiment, par son emplacement sur l’une des principales artères de la ville, a tiré parti très tôt de l’expansion de la ville vers le nord.
