Fort Pitt – Fort Carlton Trail

Linking Fort Pitt, after it was constructed in 1831, with Fort Carlton, this trail was part of the principal overland route which had developed between Red River and Edmonton. Undoubtedly familiar to generations of Indians, it was travelled by many notable traders, missionaries, and explorers, including Dr. James Hector of the Palliser Expedition, 1857, and surveyors under Sandford Fleming locating the route of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1872. Later it was used by local settlers until branch railway lines and surveyed road allowances superseded it in the Twentieth Century.

Piste Fort Pitt – Fort Carlton
