Fort Carlton – Green Lake Trail

One of the most important of the fur trade period, this trail linked the Saskatchewan River at Fort Carlton with the watershed of the Churchill at Green Lake. Near here a branch extended via Witchekin Lake to Battleford. Commencing about 1776, fur traders used it to transport goods and pemmican from the plains, avoiding the much longer and arduous water route. It was also travelled by missionaries, explorers and surveyors, including the Franklin Polar Expedition in 1820. In the Twentieth Century, the trail served pioneer settlers.

Piste Fort Carlton – Green Lake
