East Lillooet

In 1942, over 21,000 Japanese Canadians were unjustifiably removed from British Columbia’s coast.. Over 300 men, women and children lived in East Lillooet, one of four internment camps in this region. They built 62 wooden shacks, a school and gardens. Their civil rights were finally restored in 1949.

En 1942, plus de 21 000 Canadiens d’origine japonaise ont été injustement chassés de la côte de la Colombie-Britannique. Plus de 300 hommes, femmes et enfants ont vécu à East Lillooet, l’un des quatre camps d’internement de la région. Ils y ont construit 62 cabanes en bois, une école et des jardins. Leurs droits civils n’ont été rétablis qu’en 1949.
