Charles Alexander Magrath
Born in Upper Canada, Magrath participated in foundation surveys of the North-West Territories from 1878 until 1885 when he joined Sir A. T. Galt in his pioneer industrial enterprises. First mayor of Lethbridge, he was also a member of the Territorial Legislature (1891-1898), of the Haultain administration (1897-1898) and a member of Parliament representing Medicine Hat (1908-11). Sometime chairman of Ontario Hydro and of the Canadian section of the International Joint Commission, he also served on the Newfoundland Royal Commission of 1933. He died in Victoria.

Né en Ontario, Magrath participa aux premiers levés effectués dans les Territoires du Nord-Ouest, de 1878 à 1885. Il s’associa ensuite à A.T. Galt qui faisait œuvre de pionnier dans l’installation d’entreprises industrielles. Premier maire de Lethbridge, il siégea aussi à l’Assemblée législative des Territoires du Nord-Ouest et aux Communes. Il présida l’Ontario Hydro (1925-1931) et la section canadienne de la Commission mixte internationale; il siégea également à la Commission royale de Terre-Neuve en 1933. Il mourut à Victoria.
