Bloody Creek

The war and the complex interactions between the Mi’kmaq, W8banakiak, Acadians, French, and British for control of the North Atlantic region gave rise to two deadly skirmishes near here. After the French defeat at Port Royal, the British garrison forced the Acadians to supply them with wood. In response, a W8banaki force sent by a French officer ambushed the town in 1711, killing 18 people and taking prisoners. In 1757, during the Deportation, British troops pursued a Mi’kmaw and Acadian force that had attacked Annapolis Royal and were ambushed. Several deaths and injuries were recorded on both sides.

Bloody Creek
