Bayview United Church – Bay View
The Bayview United Church is a small Greek Style wooden building located on Lighthouse Road approximately eight kilometres from the town of Digby in the community of Bay View. The church is thirty-three by twenty-four feet and has the capacity to seat a congregation of one hundred fifty. Both the church and surrounding land including the cemetery are part of the heritage designation.
Bayview United Church is valued as the first Presbyterian Church and one of few manifestations of the Presbyterian faith in Digby County, a county settled predominantly by Protestant Loyalists. The church was built in 1873 and was converted to the United Church in 1925, when Presbyterian churches were given the option to remain Presbyterian or to convert to the newly formed United Church.
Église Unie de Bayview – Bay View
L’église Unie de Bayview est un petit bâtiment en bois de style grec situé sur le chemin Lighthouse, à environ huit kilomètres de la ville de Digby, dans la communauté de Bay View. L’église mesure trente-trois pieds sur vingt-quatre pieds et peut accueillir une congrégation de cent cinquante personnes. L’église et le terrain environnant, y compris le cimetière, font partie de la désignation patrimoniale.
L’église Unie de Bayview est valorisée en tant que première église presbytérienne et l’une des rares manifestations de la foi presbytérienne dans le comté de Digby, un comté colonisé principalement par des loyalistes protestants. L’église a été construite en 1873 et est devenue une église de l’Église Unie en 1925, lorsque les églises presbytériennes ont eu le choix de demeurer presbytériennes ou de se joindre à l’Église Unie nouvellement formée.
