Travellers arriving from the United States at Rainy River enter Treaty 3 territory here.

In 2015 Grand Council Treaty #3 began placing pink “Welcome to Anishinaabe Aki” signs, with the Treaty #3 logo, on the main routes into Treaty 3 territory. Seven were planned that year: two west of Thunder Bay (Highways 11 and 17), one near Red Lake, two in Manitoba (Highways 1 and 12) and two at the United States border at Fort Frances and Rainy River.

Treaty 3 was signed on 3 October 1873 at the Northwest Angle on Lake of the Woods.
