Treaty 4 / Treaty 6 boundary – Highway 16

Highway signs here mark the boundary between Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territory. The signs come in pairs, one for each Treaty territory.

Each sign shows a Treaty medal, a welcome in the Indigenous languages of the area, and the words “as long as the sun shines, grass grows, and rivers flow”, which express the spirit and intent of the Treaties. The signs were created by the Government of Saskatchewan and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner. The first pair went up on Highway 11 in 2022; by 2024 all eight Treaty boundary crossings on Saskatchewan highways were marked.

Treaty 4 was signed on 15 September 1874 at Fort Qu’Appelle. Treaty 6 was signed on 23 August 1876 at Fort Carlton and on 9 September 1876 at Fort Pitt.

Limite Traité no 4 / Traité no 6 – route 16
