Manoir Papineau

This manor house, begun in 1848, is a reflection of the eclectic architectural tastes of its original owner, Louis-Joseph Papineau (1786 1871). With its picturesque towers, rooftop observation deck, and large veranda, “Monte-Bello” is an unusual blend of European, American, and Quebec influences. Lawyer, leader of the Parti patriote, and ardent defender of the French identity in Canada, Papineau retired from politics in 1854. He then devoted his energies to his family and to the administration of his seigneury of La Petite-Nation, where he developed his vision of a model country estate.

Manoir Papineau
