Marysville Cotton Mill
Industrialist Alexander “Boss” Gibson built this cotton mill between 1883 and 1885. Designed by the Boston firm of Lockwood, Greene and Co. to meet fire insurance standards, this four-storey building features brick pier construction, a central water tower and fire-retardant materials on the interior-standard features for a cotton mill in the late 19th century. By 1900 Marysville was among the largest mills in Canada. It continued textile manufacturing until 1975. Renovated by the provincial government, this mill complex is a well preserved example of a once common Canadian type.
