War Memorial Library

The War Memorial Library in Hudson is a non-profit registered charity providing a subscription library of printed and digital materials, primarily in the English language, to the residents of Hudson, Quebec and surrounding communities. Operated by volunteers, the Library is self-financing through membership fees, donations and fund raising activities. The Library in turn donates, to local charities, funds in excess of its own needs. The building and the Library serve as a memorial to those in Hudson who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Hudson’s two libraries are the Como Lending Library and the War Memorial Library. The first one was founded in 1849 and though most of it was destroyed in a fire in 1988, it is still in operation at the rebuilt St. Mary’s Parish Hall. St. Mary’s Anglican Church was built in 1867 in Gothic Revival Style (but without the buttresses).

La War Memorial Library d’Hudson est un organisme de bienfaisance enregistré sans but lucratif qui présente une bibliothèque payante de documents imprimés et numériques, principalement en anglais, aux résidents d’Hudson, au Québec, et des communautés avoisinantes. Gérée par des bénévoles, la Bibliothèque est autofinancée grâce aux cotisations des membres, aux dons et aux levées de fonds. En retour, elle redonne aux organismes de bienfaisance locaux les fonds qui dépassent ses propres besoins. L’édifice et la Bibliothèque servent également de lieu de commémoration pour tous les habitants d’Hudson qui ont servi dans les Forces armées canadiennes.

Les deux bibliothèques d’Hudson sont la Como Lending Library et la War Memorial Library. La première a été fondée en 1849. Bien qu’elle ait été détruite lors d’un incendie en 1988, elle est toujours opérationnelle dans la salle paroissiale reconstruite de l’Église anglicane St. Mary, construite en 1867 dans un style néo-gothique (mais sans les contreforts).
