Trench memorial in Naden

This memorial is dedicated to Captain Frederick Percival Trench R.N. He was Captain of the HMS Royal Arthur, a powerful new British cruiser in 1895, died and was buried at sea. For his service in the upper Burmah campaign, Lieutenant Frederick Perceval Trench was made a Commander (Dec. 81, 1885). The Royal Arthur sailed from Portsmouth, England on March 27, 1895 to the Pacific to relieve the British armored cruiser Warspite as flagship of the British forces in Pacific waters. Captain Frederick Percival Trench was appointed governor of the port of Corinto, Nicaragua in April 1895. The new ship carried a crew of 660 men. Her Length, 360 feet ; beam, 60 feet; draught, 3 feet 9 inches ; displacement, 7,000 tons ; designated horse power, 12,000. The speed of the Royal Arthur is est down at 19.5 knots per hour. Her coal carrying capacity is 800 tons. On this coal supply it is estimated that the Royal Arthur can steam 10,000 miles at her most economical speed. The Royal Arthur is a steel built ship, copper sheathed.

Ce monument commémoratif est dédié au capitaine Frederick Percival Trench R.N. Il était le capitaine du HMS Royal Arthur, un nouveau croiseur britannique puissant. Il est mort et été inhumé en mer en 1895. Le lieutenant Frederick Percival Trench a été fait commandant, le 18 décembre 1885, pour son service lors de la campagne en Haute‑Birmanie. Le Royal Arthur était parti de Portsmouth, en Angleterre, le 27 mars 1895 et voguait sur le Pacifique pour relever le croiseur cuirassé britannique Warspite comme navire amiral des forces britanniques dans les eaux du Pacifique.
