Hillsborough Memorial Windows

In 2008, The Lieut. George B. Peck Memorial Hall was sold and converted into apartments. The six stained glass windows were removed and installed in the Legion Hall on Legion Street. Each window measures 2.1m x 1m, and represents an Albert County community: Hopewell, Harvey, Elgin, Alma, Coverdale, and Hillsborough. The windows were assembled in the church across the street from Lieut. George B. Peck Memorial Hall on dedication day. They were unveiled by the mother or wife of one of the fallen, and carried by two veterans to the church altar to be blessed, and then across the street to the Lieut. George B. Peck Memorial Hall. They were mounted on the west wall of the building from 1921-2008, when the building was sold and the windows were relocated.

On October 30, 1917 the First World War battle of Passchendaele claimed the life of Lieut. George Bishop Peck. Before the battle Lieut. Peck wrote his father requesting, in the event of his death, that his share of the family’s fortune be used for the benefit of the whole community, particularly the young people of Albert County.
