Sandy Cove Acres Cenotaph

Sandy Cove Acres is a retirement community situated in Innisfil, Ontario which boasts a large population of veterans from all services who served in the Second World War and in Korea. In 1982 a group of these veterans started planning to erect a memorial in honour of those men and women who paid with their lives so that we could live our lives in freedom. A field gun, dating back to the First World War, was obtained at an auction and mounted where you see it today. A stone inscribed as depicted in the attached photos was also installed at this time. This work of love and respect was carried out by members of Sandy Cove Veterans Club. For the past twenty-seven years a service has been conducted on Remembrance Day which is attended by approximately four hundred people including the Innisfil Pipe and Drum band, Police and Fire Services. Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Force Cadets and Navy League Cadets based at The Barrie Ontario Armoury, all send sizeable contingents led by their officers. One member from each of the Cadet Corps (Navy League excepted) lowers and raises the Flag during the last Post. This memorial was dedicated just before 11 November 1984.
