St. Paul's Church

In 1865, in response to a proposal of the Canadian Land and Emigration Company, the Church of England in Canada established the Minden Mission. The Company, which had purchased ten townships in the district, agreed to assist in supporting a missionary and that same year the Reverend Frederick Burt was appointed. A native of England, Burt had earlier served as missionary in Montreal and in Huntingdon, Quebec. At the village of Minden, which soon became the centre of his mission, Burt first conducted services in a schoolhouse, but about 1868 construction was begun on this simple frame church. It was designed in the Gothic style and remained largely unaltered until 1947 when the tower and the parish hall were added.

En 1865, en réponse à une proposition de la Canadian Land and Emigration Company, l’Église d’Angleterre au Canada mit sur pied la mission Minden. La société, qui avait acheté dix cantons dans le district, accepta de contribuer au soutien d’un missionnaire et, cette même année, le révérend Frederick Burt fut nommé. Natif de l’Angleterre, Burt avait œuvré plus tôt comme missionnaire à Montréal et à Huntingdon, au Québec. Au village de Minden, qui devint rapidement le centre de sa mission, Burt tint d’abord des offices dans une école, mais, vers 1868, la construction de cette église d’architecture simple commença. Elle fut conçue selon le style gothique et demeura pratiquement inchangée jusqu’en 1947, date à laquelle la tour et la salle paroissiale furent ajoutées.
