Mansfield Cenotaph
Located in the Mansfield Community Park on the west side of Airport Road, one hundred metres north of the traffic lights.
A stone cairn with brass plaque dedicated to those who died and those who served in the two world wars. A smaller plaque for Korea was added later. The original layout of the cairn had the plaques facing out towards Airport Road, sometime in recent years the plaques have been moved to the other side of the cairn and now face in towards the community park.
Mansfield Cenotaph was built in 1952 by Mansfield Women’s Institute and restored in 2012 by the present members of the Mansfield Institute. When it was restored the cenotaph was made more accessable to public by having it face into the park. This was accomplished by removing brass plaques on cenopath’s front and replacing on back. A walkway was built to lead you into gardens that surround cenotaph and to a bench placed in gardens to sit reflect and relax . Also added at the time of restoration was a huge rock on which was placed a brass plaque reconizing the service of Afghanistan veterans and peace keepers.
