Restoule Cenotaph
This first memorial was constructed in memory of those who paid the supreme sacrifice in the First World War. It was donated by the Restoule Women’s Institute. In June of 1939, the cenotaph was unveiled by Mrs. William Gaell and dedicated by Reverend John Witzell. It was located in the school yard of S.S.#1 Patterson, more recently know as Restoule Public School, which was subsequently closed at the end of the 1991-92 school year. Branch 639 of the Royal Canadian Legion received its charter on April 29, 1995 and opened in the former school building after extensive renovations had been completed. As the memorial was in poor condition, the stone was refurbished in September of 1997.
The second memorial sits in front of the first, containing the information from the fisrt memorial, but also beraing the names of those lost to the Second World War ad Korea. (Information from Tim Laye’s blog, Ontario War Memorials)
