Kettle Valley Cenotaph
This memorial is dedicated to those who fought in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War.
Constructed in 1924 in memory of those killed in action 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 from Greenwood and district. As Phoenix is over 4,000′ in elevation and, for many years, not accessible on November 11th, a bronze plaque bearing the same names as the Phoenix Cenotaph (Memorial #59033-025) was mounted on the Cenotaph at Kettle Valley. Phoenix, is a mining ghost town and only a Cenotaph and graveyard remain. Mr. Paul Lautard from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 155 built an indoor cenotaph of plywood which has all the names as on the Kettle Valley Cenotaph and is in the same shape. It has an 18 foot flag pole and flag. He takes it to the Legion Hall in Greenwood each November 11. It is appreciated by the aging veterans that cannot tolerate the cold and wind at Kettle Valley Cenotaph.
