Balmoral Memorial Cairn
This memorial to the local war dead and veterans of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War was erected in 1977 by the town of Balmoral. In 1977, Mr. Laureat Drapeau, who was Mayor of Balmoral and also a Second World War Veteran, in order to honour the town’s veterans, applied for and received a grant from the Federal Government to erect a memorial. Balmoral was founded by Scottish immigrants who arrived in 1820 and named their new colony Balmoral in honour of the Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Due to a harsh winter which they were not used to, around 1845 they decided to move to other parts of the country, and the colony was resettled by Acadians (French) in 1850.
