Russell Cenotaph
Erected by local veterans, this memorial was originally dedicated to the memory of the local war dead of the First World War. After the Second World War, two plaques were added in remembrance of the local losses from that conflict.
Atop the cenotaph is an Emanuel Hahn’s grieving soldier figure carved in granite. It was supplied by the Thomson Monument Company where it, and several others that found homes across Canada, were carved to Hahn’s design by company artisans. The actual carving was done in granite by company stone carvers following Kahn’s original bronze, which stands in Westville, Nova Scotia.
