Edam Cenotaph

Erected by the people of Edam and area, this memorial is dedicated to Canada’s war dead of the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. The stone mason who built the memorial is unknown. Sam Cole Sr. collected the stone used in the construction of the memorial. In 1990, a plaque was purchased from Remco Memorial, that included dedications to those who lost their lives in the Second World War (1939-1945) and the Korean War (1950-1953). Sam Cole and Andy Hindmarsh attached the plaque to the north side of the memorial in 1990. Remembrance Day Services have always concluded by placing a wreath at the memorial. This Service has been in existence since June 1, 1927, the date of the formation of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 106. Remembrance Day has always been special for the Community of Edam. The schools and businesses close and a Service is held.
