Flesherton Cenotaph

This cenotaph was unvieled on August 3, 1938 in Memorial Park by Mrs. Mary Jamieson, who had three sons and one daughter in the service. One son was killed in action and the other two have since died. During the unveiling, her daughter, May Jamieson, had a position of honour next to the cenotaph. May Jamieson was Flesherton’s only nurse during the war. When Mrs. Jamieson cut the cord, which held the flag drapping the memorial, she used the bandage scissors that her daughter used in hospital work at Malta.

It was first erected to honour those who served and died in the Great War, with the names of those from the Second World War inscribed later. The memorial is flanked by a German trench mortar and a machine gun.
