Lefebvre House

The Lefebvre House, classified as a historic monument, is a French-inspired dwelling built in 1801. This stone house with a rectangular plan has one and a half storeys at the front and two and a half storeys at the rear, owing to its hillside setting. It is topped by a steep gable roof with flared eaves on the facade. The Lefebvre House is located alongside the public road, in the heart of the village core of the municipality of Neuville.

The heritage value of the Lefebvre House lies in its representativeness as an example of the French-inspired Québec rural house. Built in 1801, it has a low main block of roughcast stone with a rectangular plan set close to the ground, a steep roof with short eaves at the rear, and asymmetrically arranged openings. When it was altered in the mid-19th century, sprockets were added to the roof rafters to form flared eaves at the front. The house has retained several elements of its interior decor: joined doors, floors and ceilings of several patterns, and old hardware.

The heritage value of the Lefebvre House also lies in its architectural particularities. The dwelling retains traces of a former central chimney on the transverse bearing wall of the basement and on the ridge beam of the roof framing, which is interrupted. Owing to its hillside setting, it has one and a half storeys at the front and two and a half storeys at the rear, and the chimney along the east gable wall has a fireplace in the basement and one on the ground floor.

Maison Lefebvre
