Horthy House
The Horthy House is located at 87 Main Street North, on the corner of Main Street and North Street, in the Town of Seaforth, in the Municipality of Huron East. The one-and-a-half storey brick residence was constructed in 1872.
The property was designated, by the former Town of Seaforth (now Municipality of Huron East) in 1978, for its heritage value, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law 12 for 1978.
The Horthy House is associated with the Ament family. Constructed in 1872, it was one of the first of a number of residences built in the Seaforth area by John Ament. Ament’s sons, William and Philip, operated a large planing mill on the two lots south of Horthy House.
The Horthy House is a one-and-a-half storey brick residence with a central gable, a style popular at the time. The Horthy House features a prominent semi-circular head window in the gable above a central entrance. The main entrance has a rectangular transom and sidelights.
Maison Horthy
La maison Horthy est située au 87, Main Street North, à l’angle de Main Street et de North Street, dans la ville de Seaforth, dans la municipalité de Huron East. Cette résidence en brique d’un étage et demi a été construite en 1872.
La propriété a été désignée par l’ancienne ville de Seaforth (aujourd’hui la municipalité de Huron East) en 1978 pour sa valeur patrimoniale, en vertu de la partie IV de la Loi sur le patrimoine de l’Ontario, règlement 12 de 1978.
La maison Horthy est associée à la famille Ament. Construite en 1872, elle fut l’une des premières d’une série de résidences bâties dans la région de Seaforth par John Ament. Les fils d’Ament, William et Philip, exploitaient une grande raboterie sur les deux lots situés au sud de la maison Horthy.
La maison Horthy est une résidence en brique d’un étage et demi à pignon central, un style populaire à l’époque. Elle présente une fenêtre proéminente à tête en demi-cercle dans le pignon, au-dessus de l’entrée centrale. L’entrée principale comporte une imposte rectangulaire et des fenêtres latérales.
