Britton House
The Britton House, at 12 Church Street, is on the west side of Church Street, south of James Street in Seaforth, Municipality of Huron East. The two storey white brick house was constructed in 1871.
The property was designated by the former Town of Seaforth (now Municipality of Huron East) in 1973 for its heritage value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-law 12-1978).
The Britton House is a good example of a Georgian style residence. Designed and built by Phillip Sparling, the two storey white brick residence features a round headed Italianate style window on the second storey and Italianate detailing above the front entrance and a fine veranda that extends the full width of the facade. The curvature of the roof on the veranda is also an example of fine craftsmanship. The south portion of the house was added in 1886, by Dr. W. Bruce Smith for office space.
Maison Britton
La maison Britton, au 12, Church Street, se trouve du côté ouest de Church Street, au sud de James Street, à Seaforth, dans la municipalité de Huron East. Cette maison de deux étages en brique blanche a été construite en 1871.
La propriété a été désignée par l’ancienne ville de Seaforth (aujourd’hui la municipalité de Huron East) en 1973 pour sa valeur patrimoniale, en vertu de la partie IV de la Loi sur le patrimoine de l’Ontario (règlement 12-1978).
La maison Britton est un bon exemple de résidence de style géorgien. Conçue et construite par Phillip Sparling, cette résidence de deux étages en brique blanche présente une fenêtre en plein cintre de style italianisant au deuxième étage, des détails italianisants au-dessus de l’entrée avant et une belle véranda qui s’étend sur toute la largeur de la façade. La courbure du toit de la véranda est également un exemple de savoir-faire raffiné. La partie sud de la maison a été ajoutée en 1886 par le Dr W. Bruce Smith pour servir de bureau.
