Melville Railway Station
The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway built this station in 1908, during a period of expansion and competition among railway companies. The design of the building is unique in Saskatchewan and remains the only one of its kind in Canada. It features twin gables, a high hipped roof, and dormers. Named after company president Charles Melville Hays, this imposing station was a major divisional point for the Grand Trunk’s transcontinental line. The railway and this station laid the foundations for the city, shaped its early development, and helped the prairie agricultural economy to flourish by facilitating the transport of people and grain.
