Grain Growers Grain Company

Founded in 1906, this farmer-controlled company dramatically changed the nature of grain marketing on the Prairies while pressing for political, economic, and social reforms. Later known as United Grain Growers Limited, it improved the economic position of farmers and helped inspire other grain marketing ventures, such as the wheat pools and the Canadian Wheat Board. The company’s newspaper, the Grain Growers’ Guide, argued for reforms ranging from tariff and freight rate reductions to the education of farmers and their families, prohibition, women’s suffrage, and direct democracy.

Grain Growers Grain Company
